The UK justice system needs reform. Labour’s manifesto emphasised a strong commitment to improving public confidence in the legal process and reducing crime nationwide.
For many years, we’ve worked closely with government bodies, legal services, and third-sector organisations to help them understand what works to build a fairer and more efficient justice system.
Our projects have covered a variety of contexts, looking at the use of technology in courts, resettlement support for prisoners and prison leavers and programmes for domestic abuse perpetrators and victim-survivors.
Highlights include work for organisations such as the Ministry of Justice, evaluating the effectiveness of processes to reduce the rate of reoffending, and the Youth Endowment Fund, mapping support systems for young people at risk of serious violence.
IFF’s core sectors have always represented the pillars of well-functioning society. With this in mind, alongside the government’s strong focus in this area, we’ve decided to expand our work in this domain with a specialised Crime & Justice sector. The aim of this sector is to further support organisations trying to resolve the prevalent issues facing the justice system, like court backlogs, record prisoner numbers, and cuts to legal aid. It will add to the 9 sectors we already have at IFF.
How we help and make an impact
We understand the context and challenges the legal system faces, and we know what matters.
Our expertise in policy, tailor-made research and related knowledge across other sectors enables us to deliver comprehensive findings – whether the focus is on legal professionals, victims, witnesses, offenders or any other relevant stakeholders.
Also, we make sure to assemble evidence based on what’s actually effective – meaningful insight into how the system can be more equitable and coherent.
